The 6th day of August 2010 was a perfectly sunny, but not humid, Friday. The type of weather you would hope for when making a trip to the Ohio State Fair. I was lucky enough to be one of the blessed fair goers this day. Walking thru the gates I couldnt help but notice all the excited faces anticpating the festivities that awaited them. There were plenty of smiles and laughs from the kids and adults fingering through wallets. The air was buzzing with sounds of people talking, midway games, the fair rides, and children yelling. The traditional fair smells ranged from funnel cakes, hamburgers, and hot dogs, to the petting zoo. Amidst the pig races, pony rides, and the goat playground I managed to find the event I was there for. I wasn’t able to make it to the Kenny “BabyFace” Edmonds concert, but as I headed past the guy on fire diving 100 feet into a pool I found my destination. The Buckeye Sports Center, no the bucks werent there, it was The Ultimate Victory Challenge Mixed Martial Arts Fights. I was happy to see that there was a packed house of people who also left the sunshine, games, and food to see someone get pummeled in the Octagon. I was privilaged to witness an awesome display of talent, speed, and power from our Ohio Mixed Martial Arts fighters. There was a very physical tapout by strikes, a chokeout, and submission holds to highlight the evening of fighting. There was a different type of energy floating in the air inside the Buckeye Center. There were adrenaline filled cheers and fist pumps combined with yells of passion. The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat at its finest, and when you add the ring girls to the mix it was well worth the price of admission. Leaving the event I couldnt help but feel satisfied with my temporary hiatus from the outdoor activities. At the end of the night, as I was leaving, the sounds were slightly changed and significantly lower. The laughs and smiles from the kids were replaced with tears and pleas to stay longer. The wallets seemed not to take as long to finger thru and every had a look of exhaustion. Ah yes! The Ohio State Fair Friday August 6 2010……

COLUMBUS, OH- July 26, 2010- TLC Channel’s wildly popular hit new series, “DC Cupcakes,” was responsible for crashing servers on Friday, July 23, 2010, according to an internet radio web site founder.
TLC’s DC Cupcakes is a six-part series that follows sisters and business partners Sophie LaMontagne and Katherine Kallinis as they run Georgetown Cupcake, a small cupcakery that they have transformed into a huge success.
That success appears to have delivered huge ratings and an incredible fan following. A following so large that their initial ratings beat the entire CW Network’s ratings and crashed an internet radio station!
Shonda Lewis, 2009 Arnold (Schwarzenegger) Classic Fitness winner, and hostess on BlahTalkRadio.Com’s Spotlight said she was excited to have the sisters from the hit television series on her show Friday afternoon.
“I knew it was going to be special because I started getting a lot of phone calls and Facebook queries about the show days before we were supposed to go on,” she said.
Lewis, an entrepreneur who has been on the Tyra Show and Essence Magazine Online, also owns BlahTalkRadio.Com and is a real estate broker.
“I invited several friends in the studio to taste the cupcakes,” she said.
Karen ” Silkmama.Com ” Reynolds, who was one of the ladies Lewis invited, had tweeted about it on another web site, Twittermoms.com, whose membership of more than 25,000 moms quickly started re-tweeting about the show according to Reynolds. “I saw eight other moms immediately re-tweet my initial tweet about the show,” Reynolds said.
Lewis said the phones started ringing right away and her small crew was scrambling to keep up with the technical aspects and the pace of the show.
“It seemed like there were ten thousand things going on at once,” she said.
“After we lost the connection with Katherine the sound dropped out, then a loud echo came through the headphones,” Reynolds said. “Then that was it, they just shut down the rest of the show.”
Lewis said she views the crash as a learning lesson as she plans to syndicate her radio show. She realizes she needs to upgrade her equipment and further train her staff to handle situations like having TLC’s DC Cupcakes on her show.
Lewis is also using the press about this incident to promote a charity. “I am asking people to give to the James “Buster” Douglas Scholarship here:
http://www.thepoint.com/campaigns/campaign-0-777 . “Even though I just suffered through a system crash, I can always turn lemons into lemonade by helping other people.”
